About True Craft Academy

True Craft Academy was founded to help students develop a deeper and more practical understanding of music at the keyboard.
Many students spend years learning pieces yet still struggle to read music fluently, improvise, or understand how musical ideas actually work. This often happens because traditional training focuses primarily on memorising repertoire rather than understanding the structural organisation of music itself.
True Craft Academy takes a different approach
The academy teaches the True Craft Method, a structured system that helps students understand how musical ideas are organised and how they relate to the keyboard. Through this approach, students gradually develop the ability to sight-read confidently, improvise naturally, play by ear, and perform across a wide range of musical styles.
Meet the Director
True Craft Academy is directed by Presley Joe Black, a pianist and music educator dedicated to helping students develop a deeper understanding of music and practical musicianship skills.
Through years of teaching and study, it became clear that many students struggle not because of a lack of talent, but because they are not taught the structural foundations that make music understandable and flexible.
Many learners are able to play pieces yet remain uncertain about harmony, improvisation, or how to adapt music in different musical situations.
True Craft Academy was created to provide a more structured and systematic approach to musicianship training.
The goal is not simply to teach students how to perform individual pieces, but to help them develop the knowledge and confidence needed to navigate music independently.
